My First Storm in San Diego

Today we had the first big storm since I have been in San Diego...and I loved it, although truth be told, I would have loved a little thunder and lightening. Anyway, I woke up to the sound of rain outside, and it has not stopped since. Just thought that I would share this with you all...it has put me in a good mood, especially since my migraine is officially gone!!!!!!

On another, unrelated note, tomorrow (December 1st) is World AIDS Day. I have put a link on this page to the One Campaign and their petition to the presidential candidates asking them about their plans for dealing with the AIDS pandemic and other such diseases, etc. we are currently facing. If you are so inclined, i encourage you to check it out. Their web page can be found here.

I also wanted to take a minute to say congratulations to Summer and her family for the birth of the new Haines child, and say that I hope that things are going much better now with both mother and baby and only continue to improve!!

Back to San Diego

I am now back to my own house here in San Diego. I had a lot of fun at home, and actually wish I could have spent a little longer there, but there is something so nice about being able to sleep in my own new bed.

I already wrote a little about my Wednesday trip home, so I will pick up on Thanksgiving...Well, Thanksgiving is usually pretty uneventful at my house, but I think that is what I love about it so much. Its just my mom, dad, brother and I (oh, I can't forget the dog and cat because they too have a chair and plate at the table), and we just sit down together and talk about the most random stuff. It is even better now that I am only home a few days every few months, at most. We all stuffed ourselves with WAY too much food and vegged out in front of the tv while my brother and I took turns playing my dad's new PSP.

On Friday, Black Friday as its known, my mom and I went shopping!!!! We went in the early afternoon, so it was not too crowded...and the best part...she bought me clothes!!!!!Woohoo!! I love the time we spend shopping (that's kind of our thing), but it is just the icing on the cake when I also get new clothes. We also stopped by Borders in LG on the way home (and on the way back from Gap) and I ran into Summer, whom I had not seen since I was home in June!! I love running into people I have not seen in a while! Friday night, my friend Liz came and picked me up at my house and we spent the night in Starbucks just gabbing away like we used to. I was so excited to see her because I had not seen her for probably close to two years.

Saturday, today, was my flight home. I was on a tiny plane again, but that was okay. The part I did not like too much was the bumpy ride. I love flying, but really don't like the feeling in my stomach that I am on a roller coaster when I am 36,000 feet above the ground in a flying metal tube. Somehow, that is a little discomforting, but I would take that bumpy flight over having to make that drive very often. Hmm....little over an hour in the air or 8-9 hours in the car...tough call.

I actually landed about 15 minutes early tonight, but it took me like 15 minutes to catch the shuttle back to my car. And let me just say that that shuttle ride was very interesting. The driver talked to himself and laughed at his own jokes the whole way; he took the wrong turn along the way and got lost in the short term parking lot; ran red lights because he was too impatient to wait for them to turn green; and seemed to think it was fun to throw me off my seat by either taking corners too fast or slamming on his breaks.. oh well, I got back to my car ok and it was still in one piece, so no real harm done.

On the way home, I had to make a pit stop over to my friend Claire's house for us to do a little catch up on our tv shows we missed over the week at we watch together. Oh, and to make a really good ending to my little vacation home, I found a parking spot right outside my gate tonight so I did not have to carry my heavy crap too far. I am looking forward to my next trip home for Christmas!! ;)

Home Sweet Home

I have been up since 430 this morning, but I am finally home!! I got to the airport extra early this morning because it is supposed to be the busiest flying day of the year, but lucky for me, there was actually very few people there. I was the only person in the check-in line, so I got right up there and got my bag checked. My plane was just about the smallest thing I have ever seen...i mean I could barely stand up in it, and that is saying a lot since in my family I am known as the hobbit!! But, the flight was short and smooth, so I was very pleased. I seemed to have forgotten how nice flying can be since it has been at least 10 years since i have been on a plane.

Anyway, after I got home my mom and I went to Sweet Peas in Los Gatos for a nice brunch...then it was home for a nice nap!! Now its play time with the animals...and it won't end until I head back to San Diego :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Midterm Fun...No Really!!!

I have officially survived my first set of graduate school midterms!!! And lucky for me they were both on the same day (yeah except not really too lucky at all). The first midterm was in my Biostatistics course, which amazingly I find to be a pretty fun class considering that it is a math class. Immediately following Biostatistics I had my Epidemiology midterm, which is another fun course both because I get to study how diseases (and we know how much of a disease freak I am) spread throughout populations and I have a pretty awesome professor. Oh, and did I mention that they were both on a Monday? Anyway, after a long week of waiting for my grades on my midterms, I finally got them back today. 95% on both of them!! I really don't like to brag about my grades because I am only in competition with myself here, but I do believe this deserves a little mention...I freakin' kick ass!!! Yeah for me!!! Ok, I am done bragging now. ;)~
